World Showcase

The World Showcase houses pavillions displaying the sights, sounds, people, and food from 11 different countries around the world.

No passport is required to visit these countries, which are staffed by native-born cast members, who offer a personal glimpse into their history and culture.  Each pavilion offers Kidcot Funstops, where children and adults can converse and interact with cast members native to that particular country, and collect passport stamps on a free souvenier project they can carry with them from country to country.  Best of all, you can eat your way around the World Showcase, enjoying national dishes and snacks in every land, as well as shopping for regional specialities if you wish.

The World Showcase pavilions normally open at 11am daily, but check park operating times for specific hours of operation.

Description of countries are listed based on location around World Showcase, starting on east side with Mexico, and continuing around World Showcase Lagoon in a clockwise fashion to Canada.

Mexico Pavilion

Mexico is the first pavilion on the east side of the World Showcase.  There you see a replica of an Aztec temple, but as you enter you find yourself in Mexican town center.  There you can find Mexican crafts to purchase, San Angel Inn Restaurant, a cultural exhibit, a Kidcot Funstop and the Gran Fiesta Tour attraction.

Restaurants:  There are two restaurants in the Mexico Pavilion.  The San Angel Inn Restaurant offers sit down dining inside the Aztec pyramid, while the Cantina de San Angel offers counter service Mexican food and margaritas.  There is a separate Margarita Stand as well.

Character Greetings:  You can usually meet Donald Duck (dressed in a sarape) and the Three Caballeros throughout the day on the walkway outside the Aztec temple.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is located in the Casa Mexicana exhibit room at the entrance to the pavilion.

Mexico's Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros

Location:  World Showcase - Mexico Pavilion

Ride Type:  Boat Ride

Passengers:  4-5 per row

Fastpass?  No

Minimum Height:  None

Summary:  Based on the Disney movie "The Three Caballeros", the Gran Fiesta Tour takes guests on a slow boat ride through scenes from the movie interspersed through rooms showcasing Mexican history, architecture, and culture.  The eight minute long ride is reminiscent of "It's a Small World" in the Magic Kingdom, but focused on Mexican themes.

Comments:  Although sections of the ride are dark, it is a very soothing ride for children.  If the child is familiar with the 1944 Disney movie "The Three Caballeros", they will enjoy seeing scenes from the movie throughout the ride.  Lines are generally short, because the ride is almost hidden at the very back of the Mexico Pavilion inside the Aztec pyramid.

Norway Pavilion

Norway offers a mixture of architecture as well as activities.  It offers a Stave Church gallery (only one of 30 Stave churches still in existence), the Maelstrom ride, a bakery with Norwegian pastry, a Kidcot Funstop, and the popular Akershus Princess Storybook character meal.  Take a moment to see the troll statue in the shop (it is rumored that if  you kiss the nose it will bring good luck) while you admire the hand-made wool sweaters.

Restaurants:  There are two restaurants in the Norway Pavilion.  The Akershus castle hosts Princess Storybook Dining - a character meal featuring the Disney Princesses.  Breakfasts are American style, but lunch and dinner offer Norwegian food and a Fra Koldtbordt (buffet of Norwegian salads, fish, and cheeses).  The Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe offers pastries and sandwiches in a counter service format.

Character Greetings:  All the character greetings in Norway happen inside the Akershus castle as part of the character dining program.  You can make reservations for an American style breakfast, or a Norwegian style lunch or dinner up to 90 days in advance.  As part of the character meal, you get a professional 8x10 photograph taken with one of several Disney Princesses (who rotate daily), and get the chance to meet up to four additional Princesses or other female characters who rotate by each table during your meal to sign autographs, talk with the children, and pose for pictures.  Many children dress up for this event as their favorite Disney Princess.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  You can find the Kidcot stop inside the shop as you exit the Maelstrom ride.

Norway's Maelstrom

Location:  World Showcase - Norway Pavilion

Ride Type:  Boat Ride

Passengers:  16 per boat

Fastpass?  Yes

Minimum Height:  None

Summary:  Board a Viking inspired longboat for a journey through Norways history.  Your peaceful journey through the fishing villages and scenery of Norway is interrupted by trolls and ogres, who try to chase the boat down waterfalls and into a "maelstrom" (a powerful whirlpool of water).  You escape the clutches of the mythical creatures and end up at a modern Norwegian fishing village, where you can view an optional five minute film about Norway's history and people, or exit into the gift shop.  This is like a shorter, lighter version of "Pirates of the Caribbean" with a Norwegian flavor.

Comments:  There are several dark periods on the ride.  Children may be disturbed by the images and figures of trolls.  At one point, the ride goes backwards towards a waterfall.

China Pavilion

China's pavilion offers you chance to experience China through a beautiful replica of a Chinese Temple, several dining experiences, shops and art exhibit.  Inside the replica of Beijing's Temple of Heaven is an interesting exhibit of the Teracotta Wariors and a 360 degree fil, "Relections of China".  You also have a chance to meet characters from the Disney movie "Mulan", and get your passport project stamped at the Kidcot station.

Restaurants:  There are three places to eat or qet a quick snack in the China Pavilion.  The newly rennovated Nine Dragons restaurant offers fine Chinese dishes in a sit down full service dining experience.  The menu consists of hot and cold appetizers, entrees, soups and salads, and a box lunch menu.  The Lotus Blossom Cafe offers counter service food from around the provinces of China, as well as smoothies and unique ice cream flavors (like red bean).  Finally, the Joy of Tea stand offers tea slushes, water, alchoholic beverages, and tea-flavored ice cream snacks.

Character Greetings:  Mushu the dragon and Mulan (from the Disney movie "Mulan") are often available for pictures, autographs, and hugs near the Tomb Warriors exhibit.

Mulan   Mushu

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is located in Yong Feng Shangdian department store.  Cast members will often write the child's name in Chinese characters (Mandarin or other dialects) as well as a short greeting - a unique souvenier!

Entertainment and Education:  Be sure to visit Tomb Warriors exhibit (To see Tomb Warriors Image Gallery, click here), which features a replica of the terra cotta warriers of Xian (note that each warrior is unique).  If your timing is right, you might also be able to see the Dragon Legend Acrobats perform in the forecourt of the pavilion.

China's Relections of China

Location:  World Showcase - China Pavilion

Ride Type:  360 Degree Movie

Fastpass?  No

Minimum Height:  None

Summary:  Take a trip through modern and ancient China in a unique movie that captures breathtaking views and scenes and displays them to you on screens located around the circular viewing room.  The movie was shot in 360 degrees with a circlevision camera, putting you in the center of the films action.  When you enter the theatre, you will find yourself standing in short rows, with waist high bars to lean against.  The film, hosted by the Chinese poet Li Bai, takes you on a journey through the diverse landscape of China, and introduces you to her people.  Starting with the Great Wall of China, you will visit Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Mongolia, and Tibet.  From the hustle and bustle of the modern cities, to the slower pace in the rice fields of the countryside, China's natural beauty and diversity are showcased in this film.

Comments:  In a 360 degree movie, there are nine screens located on the walls of a circular room.  You stand during the movie to be able see the different views.  The movie is about 20 minutes long, and you are free to exit at any time.  Because the movie is literally all around you, it can be a bit overwhelming to children with sensory issues.  Also, there are no seats, so you might ask the cast members about leaving your child in a stroller if you have one.  Be sure to note the exits before the movie begins in case you need to leave during the film.

Germany Pavilion

Take a stroll through Germany Pavilion, which is reminiscent of a small Bavarian town square with a statue of St. George.  Even thought there is no attraction in  the Germany Pavilion, there is a lot to appreciate and enjoy.  There are stores selling German clocks, toys, Christmas decorations (look for the Christmas Pickle ornament), and German food, beverages, and sweets.

Restaurants:  The Germany Pavilion offers two main dining options.  The Biergarten offers an all you can eat buffet of hot and cold German specialities.  The Sommerfest restaurant offers counter service bratwurst and beer.  There are also pretzel and bier stands for quick snacks.

Character Greetings:  You can usually meet Snow White and Dopey from the Disney movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" on the east side of the pavilion (the side nearest to the China Pavilion).

Italy Pavilion

The Italy Pavilion is based on the classic architecture of Venice, including bridges, a bell tower, and the Piazza San Marco.  Inside the square, various street performers entertain crowds, and a fountain offers a refreshing photo stop.  The stores of La Bottega and il Bel Critallo sell Italian perfumes, leather goods, and venitian masks.

Restaurants:  The Tutto Italia Restaurant offers sit down dining and a wide range of Italian specialities, including appetizers, fish, main courses, and desserts.  They also have a snack kiosk that offers desserts, coffees, and other Italian beverages.

The American Adventure Pavilion

The American Adventure Pavilion lies at the heart of the World Showcase.  The beautiful colonial buildings house a counter service restaurant, an American Heritage Gallery and National Treasures exhibit, a store offering patriotic and educational gifts, and the American Adventure attraction.  The nearby American Gardens Theatre hosts live concerts and holiday events.

Restaurants:  There are no table service restaurants in the American Adventure Pavilion.  The Liberty Inn offers counter service American favorites - cheeseburgers and fries, chicken strips, sandwiches and salads.  The Fife and Drum Tavern offers turkey legs and hot dogs, with a nearby kiosk that sells funnel cakes and drinks.

Character Greetings:  At this time, there are no characters in the American Adventure Pavilion.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is located next to Heritage Manor Gifts.

The American Adventure Attraction

Location:  World Showcase - American Adventure Pavilion

Ride Type:  Audio-Animatronic movie

Fastpass?  No

Minimum Height:  None

Summary: The American Adventure attraction combines audio-animatronics with video to portray highlights of American history and the American story.  This 30 minute show is hosted by Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin.  It covers the story of the United States from the Pilgrim's landing, through the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, through to our modern era.  The score and featured song is stirring and the show is true to the triumphs and the struggles of our American Adventure.

Comments:  The theatre is on the upper level of the building, and is reached by escalators, elevators, and stairs.  If you child has transition issues, you might speak to a cast member about using the elevator instead of the escalator.  The show takes place in a large theatre.  Seating is usually first come, first served, but cast members can assist you if you wish to be near the exit.  The show is very lengthy, and younger or low-functioning children may not follow the story line.  The sound can be quite loud at times.

Japan Pavilion

The Japan Pavilion is home to the largest store in all of the World Showcase.  Hosted by the Mitsukoshi Company (in business since 1673), the Pavilion features a peaceful two story pagoda symbolizing earth, water, fire, wind, and sky.  In addition to the large department store, you can sample Japanese cuising at one of four restaurants or kiosks.  Listen to the Matsuriza Taiko Drummers perform, watch candy artist Miyuki demonstrate the dying art of candy sculpture, have your name written in Kanji by a Japanese cast members at the Kidcot station, or see an amazing display of tin toys from the 1950s.

Restaurants:  There are many places to eat in the Japan Pavilion.  For a full service sit down dining experience, try the new Tokyo Dining restaurant, or the Teppan Edo restaurant.  Both offer full menus featuring sushi, bento boxes, grilled items, and an assortment of appetizers.  The Yakitori House offers counter service sushi, teriyaki, and udon noodle dishes.  Enjoy a sweet fruit-flavored shaved ice treat at the Kaki-Gori kiosk.

Character Greetings:  At this time, there are no character greetings in the Japan Pavilion.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is located in the Tin Toy Stories exhibit near the rear of the Pavilion (by the back entrance to the Mitsukoshi department store).  Ask to have your name written in Kanji characters by the hosting cast member.

Entertainment and Education:  Be sure to visit the Tin Toy Stories exhibit, which features hundreds of tin toys manufactured in Japan during the 1950s.  If you can, try and catch a performance by Miyuki, who makes candy animals free for children during her exhibit.  The drum performances by the Matsuriza Taiko Drummers might be too overwhelming for children with sound or sensory issues.

Morocco Pavilion

To create the Moroccan pavilion, the King of Morocco sent his own personal architects and artisans to recreate the look and feel of exotic cities like Casablanca and Marrakesh.  Enjoy a unique shopping experience in the Marketplace in the Medina - reminiscent of an open air bazaar in Morocco.  Meet the characters from the Disney movie "Aladdin", or visit the Moroccan National Tourist Office.  Enjoy belly dancers as you dine on chicken with preserved lemons or exotic lamb dishes in the restaurants of the Morocco Pavilion.

Restaurants:  The Moroccan dishes served in the two restaurants are probably the most exotic food in all of the World Showcase - and the least familiar to children with autism.  The Restaurant Marrakesh offers sit down full service dining, with belly dancers as entertainment.  The menu includes shish kabobs (beef and chicken), roast lamb, lemon chicken, and appetizers made from beef and spices.  The Tangierine Cafe offers counter service sandwiches and wraps, salads, and vegetables platters - all with a distinctly Moroccan flavor.

Character Greetings:  Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, and Genie (from the Disney movie "Aladdin") are often available for pictures, autographs, and hugs near the back of the Marketplace in the Medina section of the Pavilion.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is in the Marketplace in the Medina section of the Pavilion.  You might ask the cast member to write your child's name in Arabic for a unique souvenier.

France Pavilion

This is easily one of the most popular pavilions in all of the World Showcase.  When you enter the France Pavilion, you feel as if you are in a turn of the last century back street in Paris, complete with a view of the Eiffel tower in the background.  The France Pavilion hosts the Impressions de France movie, shops selling French goods, five different dining options, and a chance to meet characters from the Disney movies "Beauty and the Beast" and "Sleeping Beauty".

Restaurants:  The dining options in the France Pavilion offer "l'embarras des richesses" - two upscale full service restaurants, a counter service bakery, and two kiosks offering French specialities.  The Chefs de France full service restaurant offers classic and classy French cuisine - duck, ratatouille, escargot, onion soup, etc.  Upstairs, the Bistro de Paris offers even pricier gourmet options of lobster, rack of lamb, tuna tartar, and a variety of pates.  For quick counter service options, head to the Boulangerie Patisserie bakery which offers pastries, sandwiches, and quiches to go.  Enjoy wine and cheese at Les Vins de Chefs de France snack kiosk, or ice cream crepes and waffle cones at Crepes de Chefs de France snack kiosk.

Character Greetings:  Meet Belle and Beast (from the Disney Movie "Beauty and the Beast") either inside the Plume et Palette shop, or outside near the promendade and rose garden.  Princess Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty (from the Disney movie "Sleeping Beauty") is also often available for pictures, autographs, and hugs.

France's Impressions de France Movie

Location:  World Showcase - France Pavilion

Ride Type:  Movie

Fastpass?  No

Capacity:  325 guests

Minimum Height:  None

Summary:  Impressions de France is a 20 minute journey through the scenery and cities of France.  Set to a classical score, the movie is very visual, with a 200 degree screen that fills your field of vision.  Unlike the standing room only movie theatres in China and Canada, the Palais de Cinema movie theatre offers padded seats built to resemble Napoleon III's royal theatre in Fontainebleu.

Comments:  There may be little to interest younger or low-functioning children, other than the fairly rapid scene changes in the movie.  You may wish to speak to a cast member about seating near the exit, in case your child needs to leave the movie early.  The run time can be a bit lengthy, and sometimes the volume is loud.

United Kingdom Pavilion

Visiting the United Kingdom Pavilion is like visiting a small village in the heart of England.  Shop for Twinings Teas and bone china, look up your family crest, revel in cricket gear, or browse through classic childrens toys and books.  There are several quiet spots in the United Kingdom Pavilion, especially near the maze garden (have a go if you have the time!).  Visit with Disney classic characters from "Winnie the Pooh", "Alice in Wonderland", and "Mary Poppins", or enjoy some traditional fish and chips or pub grub.

Restaurants:  There are two dining options in the United Kingdom Pavilion.  The Rose & Crown Pub full service restaurant offers classic pub grub, including Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips, Potato and Leek Soup, and various curries.  The Yorkshire County Fish Shop offers classic fish and chips in a counter service format.  If you are interested in seeing the "Illuminations" fireworks show, you might try for a late dining reservation at the Rose & Crown and ask for seating outside (not guaranteed!) - the tables are on the lagoon and offer one of the best views of the fireworks show.

Character Greetings:  Characters from the Disney movies "Winnie the Pooh", "Mary Poppins", and "Alice in Wonderland" can usually be met either in the Toy Soldier store, or across from the Yorkshire County Fish Shop in the gardens of Britannia Square.  Check with the daily schedule or a cast member for specifics, but you can generally find Mary Poppins, Alice, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet available for photographs, hugs, and autographs throughout the afternoon.

Canada Pavilion

The Canada Pavilion is the first country you enter when working your way counter-clockwise around the World Showcase Lagoon (on the west side of the park near the Imagination Pavilion).  Showcasing the diversity of the country, the Canada Pavilion offers Native American Totem Poles side by side with French Gothic buildings, log cabins, and English seaport villages.  Enjoy the rugged beauty of waterfalls and the calming view of flower gardens.  Meet the bears Koda and Kenai (from the Disney movie "Brother Bear"), view the 360 degree film "O Canada", enjoy a gourmet meal at Le Cellier Steakhouse, or shop for maple products and moose toys.

Restaurants:  There is a single restaurant in the Canada Pavilion, but it's a favorite of regular park-goers.  The Le Cellier Steakhouse offers lunch and dinners featuring tasty beef and fish dishes, as well as their signature Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup and desserts heavy on maple flavors.  You can also choose from a prix fix three course meal of chefs favorites - chosing an appetizer, entree, and dessert from a set menu for a fixed price.  Just outside of the Canada Pavilion, a McDonalds Refreshment Port offers a traditional McDonald's menu - a good choice for picky children who are looking for more familiar foods.

Character Greetings:  Meet Kenai and Koda from the Disney movie "Brother Bear" on the promenade in the Canada Pavilion.

Kidcot Funstop Station:  The Kidcot station is located near the exit to the O Canada movie.  You can also find it by following the handicap entrance signs to the O Canada attraction.

Canada's O Canada Movie

Location:  Canada Pavilion

Ride Type:  360 Degree Movie

Fastpass?  No

Capacity:  600

Minimum Height:  None

Summary:  "O Canada, our home and native land."  Contrary to popular belief, it does not snow year round in Canada.  Don't believe me?  Ask Martin Short - host of this visually stunning tour through the diverse provinces and natural beauty of Canada.  The movie was shot with a 360 degree circlevision camera, and offers stunning view of Niagra Fallas, the ski resorts of British Columbia, the stunning cities of Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto, as well as footage of the annual Calgary Stampede rodeo.  The best part of the film is the humorous narration by Canadian actor Martin Short - as well as a visual reminder of just how many great actors Canada has given us.

Comments:  In a 360 degree movie, there are nine screens located on the walls of a circular room.  You stand during the movie to be able see the different views.  The movie is about 14 minutes long, and you are free to exit at any time.  Because the movie is literally all around you, it can be a bit overwhelming to children with sensory issues.  Also, there are no seats, so you might ask the cast members about leaving your child in a stroller if you have one.  Be sure to note the exits before the movie begins in case you need to leave during the film.  The easiest way to enter this movie is through the handicapped entrance as the main entrance involves climbing up and down stairs (which can be difficult with a stroller or smaller children).

Disney's Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure

Location:Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, France, or United Kingdom Pavilion in World Showcase

Ride Type:Interactive Tour

Fastpass?Required (see below)

Summary: Disney’s Kim Possible’s enemies have invaded World Showcase and are in need of volunteer secret agents to help stop them. Follow the clues provided through the Kimmunicator (provided at the start of the adventure) to activate clues in each country and to help stop the villains.

Begin the adventure by stopping at a recruitment kiosk in either the Future World Innoventions center or near the Odyssey Bridge. The recruitment center will hand out an assignment for a time and location inside World Showcase. When you show up they will give you the Kimmunicator (similar to a mobile phone) which provides clues and sets off interactive devices in the country. Assignments last about 30 minutes depending on the agent(s).

Comments:The adventure is fun and very interactive. The clues are require some thought and searching throughout the pavilions. This adventure is best done as a family, but older children may do very well on their own. The Kimmunicator provides short animated videos, but you must try and find the interactive stations in each land to get the next clue. Because the adventure is self paced, you can terminate it at any time if you don't enjoy it or if your children are ready for something different. We think this is a fun family activity for all ages and abilities.
